The radio call... questions

After listening to the police recordings, I’m struck by a couple of things.

First, in the radio call Sammis says a “suspect” has been shot.  He’s always said he thought he was shooting at a suspect with a real gun.  Maybe he didn’t yet know it was a 12 year old with a toy.  So, does the radio traffic support Sammis’ story?  On the surface, it would seem so.

But the radio call comes 34 seconds after his partner Jimmy Evans placed a cell phone call directly into police dispatch.  Evans refers to the shooting of a “subject.”

Both “subject” and “suspect” are common police speak and the difference could mean nothing.  Why the phone call before the radio call?

When WMPD dispatch called the Arkansas State Police for assistance, it certainly doesn’t sound like anybody back at headquarters knew a child had been shot.

All of this may just be the fog of confusion in the moments after the shooting, but it does need an explanation.

Why is there never anything said, on this blog, about the child that was with DeAunta Ferrow  the night he was shot?

What does he have to say about what happened that night?

I agree and good question, Puzzled?  It will be interesting to see what Sammis' partner had to say about the situation as well.

After listening to the radio calls on the news and website, I don't think we can critique the response times of what happened that night.  It is very easy for those of us not in the situation to say that we would have called sooner, etc.  I do feel that these calls do show that Sgt.Sammis and everyone else involved had no idea that a child had been shot.  Also, if Sgt. Sammis were such an evil individual as the media and community has made him out to be, then why would he have called for "The Wing?"  In my opinion, if he were such a bad person that would be the last people he would call.  It seems to me that he and his partner were trying to get help there as soon as possible.

being new to this area (2 years), I have never seen anything like this.  If the officer had been black and the child white...none of this would be going on. Most officers do not seek out children to harm.  And the dispatch calls indicate the officers at the scene tried to get help as quickly as possible and seem to not know the "suspect" was a child.  Accidents happen and they can be horrific. And to have boycotts, what will this accomplish??  Whites are the minority in west memphis. I made a specific point to shop on Monday.  And Mr Sharpton needs to stay in New York and get a real job.

I think this is only the beginning of more terrible things to come.  In reality, there are more illiterate "bubbas and  trailer trash" in Arkansas, Alabama, North Carolina and Tennessee than MOST states.  Media spin is very effective and it can really sway opinion.   You don't have to look to far back.  A good example is all the poor white trash who voted for Bush ( another imbecile), with nothing gained and a lot lost because of his stubborness and brain-washing skills.   This population segment is worse off than before, i.e., gas prices and unemployment.   They thought they had a good president from Texas whom would take them to the promised land, hah!
Oh how they missed it!

I do not support the thuggish mentality of hip hop, gold chains, ear rings, etc..  Blacks play into the hands of Bubba and his cronies and until they learn to be producers rather than consumers, blacks will always be looked at as nothing more than illegimate whatevers, inferior people.  Please understand, there are more poor-ass trailer park white trash than poor-ass blacks.  They receive aid and assistance with discreet networks while blacks receive it and get the New York Times plastering the news on the front page.

When will blacks wake up, smell the coffee, network, support their own, and get an education of substance (not sports, rap music and other bull-*** dead end crap).  Please provide answers.

The police chief in West Memphis should be fired due to total incompetence, he's probably a product of redneck incest with no formal education nor managerial skills.  The cop should be jailed for incompetence, arrogance, stupidity and racism.

This is a REAL case and West Memphis along with the county is in real-deep "kim ***".   This is going to be a landmark case.  There's a major problem and that's the sorry-ass, irresponsible "baby's day and the dysfunctional family surrounding this child was growing up in.

Mr Bubba.

That was really a bunch of S***. How are you gone sit up and sterotype the black race?  You cant say that all balck people listen to rap and so on cause all black people dont. Until you meet everyone that is black then you need not say anything that is stereotypical.  There are many black people that aupport their own and have educations of source. Do you know DeAunta Farrow personally? I THINK NOT. You dont know how his parents raised him so therefor you cant say that his family was dysfunctional. Me personally i think that you are a stereotypical A**hole.

I hope I can help lay this matter to rest.

First off. I was trained as an Arkansas police officer. Part-Time 2 law enforcement officer. ASU-Searcy Ar. 2003

Obtained Concealed Carry Permit 2002

I worked as an Armed Private Security Officer in Little Rock 2000-2003

I am a former volunteer firefighter/ First responder White County Ar. 1998-2004

As a former police officer. I can say that if Sgt. Sammis was inclined to use lethal force to end an incident. then he obviously thought that he had no other choice.

I hear all the chatter about leg or hand shots. Police officers are not trained this way. Neither are private citizens who apply for concealed carry permits, or Security officers who are commisioned to carry a firearm.

They are trained to shoot for the intelligent target. The trunk of the body. Center Mass shots are unfortunately at times. Acceptable threat resolution. Basically in lethal force. Clear leather, and double-tap the trigger.

Sgt. Sammis was put in a situation. Only the 2 sides involved can actually comment about whether the amount of force was excessive.

Do my feelings go out to Ms. Farrow? No. I feel that she should be charged with neglect of a minor resulting in death. If he had been at home like he should have been. Considering the hour, age of the young man, and the area.

I have been to West Memphis on several occasions. The entire town used to be a drug ridden war zone.  People in that area have been known to cave a person's skull in for 5 bucks.

What would have been said if Young Mr. Farrow had been found robbed and murdered by a coked out hobo? Would Jesse or Al have shown up?

I am reminded of a shootout in which another officer had to make the lethal force choice. State Trooper Dan Sanderson had to make the decision about taking the life of 17 Brian Rahmey. Trooper Sanderson Fired.

How can we judge unless we are party to the incident. If you feel so strongly about your community, and preventing unfortunate tragedies like this one. Take the oath. Wear the badge. Put your money were your mouth is. It is completely different across the thin blue line.

Mr. Harper,

When DSC said they asked their employees to fly the U. S. Flag at half mast, correctly said it should be "half Staff", half mast is for ships at sea. But to suggest they fly the flag for 30 days at half mast is a disrespect to what the Flag  represents.

Only the President of the United States is given that respect. Show respect for the Flag it deserves and read the laws:

Those people that have died it is truly regrettable and all life and loss thereof is
truly a great tragedy and pray they all knew the Lord and are with HIM now.
