I hear people talk about how old the typical Memphis fan is. Some ridicule them, while others just flat out criticize the fan base. Now I’ve never seen a survey or statistic regarding the age of the average person attending a Tigers’ basketball game, but you can be sure I’ve never looked for it either. I don’t understand why it’s even a topic of discussion. And trying to dissect to point out the difference represents the very problem of our society as a whole.
We always assume that because something is a certain way in one set of circumstances, it should be that way in others. No, Memphis fans are not like the Cameron Crazies of Duke, but so what. Reggae and jazz, in the words of John Calipari “is what it is,” and as different as can be, but hopefully you can appreciate them both. Hopefully.
