The man accused of killing a tattoo artist appeared in court Monday, January 14, 2008.
Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty if 20 year-old Jeremy Young is convicted of murdering Chianne Gast. Young is accused of raping and killing Gast in July 2007 inside her shop, Top Shelf Tattoo, located on Summer Avenue.
During his court appearance, Young told the judge he still did not have an attorney, so the judge appointed a lawyer to represent him. He is scheduled to reappear in court in February.
Prosecutors say they will not seek the death penalty for three other people involved. Talandus McCoy, Princeton Price and Jamal Williams were also arrested. Investigators say Gast's husband was beaten and robbed during the incident.
