Chianne was a friend of my fathers. I never met her. I have some understanding of what went down. I don't agree to what Chianne or what those men were doing that night. But, he didn't have to shoot her. He could have taken the money, the drugs, whatever, and just left. Did he really HAVE to shoot her? Come on...  I hope he does get the death penalty. But, he will never actual BE executed. Which is sad.

I’m trying not to look at race in this situation, since my family knew Chianne. I didn't know her, so I’m also not looking at her murder in the personal sense either. He could have just left with the money. He didn't have to kill her. That's what is so upsetting for me. I would feel the same if it was a black woman, a mexican woman, etc. Chianne and her husband knew the murderers. Even said they thought "they were good people." Yeah, if that’s a friend, I fear enemies. They could have just left...  To me, that’s why it’s tragic. It just wasn't necessary.

I feel the death penalty is to easy for these criminals. I think they should suffer in a maximum security facility with no television, no radio, and no communication! Only feed them like animal cause getting a quick death is to easy! Make them suffer like they have made the families of the people suffer! THE DEATH PENALTY IS GETTING OFF EASY! @ TASHA I want to thank you for your comments because peolpe tend to forget that everyone involved has family members that are affected by this. Yes these young men made a bad chose of judgement but that doesn't stop their families from loving them.

My heart goes out to both families involved....I still think he should get the death penalty...I do believe that when you take away someones right to live then you should lose your rights as well!!!  Maybe if we would start showing that we mean business when it comes to murder and other crimes....less of this would happen!!!  What this man did is not a mistake..... forgeting to drop off a movie etc....thats a mistake....you dont accidently kill ANYONE!!!!  This guy just didnt care and why should he....were so relaxed on crimes now days that its getting out of hand...its so easy to plead insanity or say your life was in danger to get out of something you clearly knew you were doing wrong!!!!  Killing anyone is never OK and if we would step up our game and show that killing will get the maximum penalty then maybe it will stop!!!  We need to quit letting ppl on death row plead their case and say its against their rights b/c as far as im concerned they have none!!!

people like this need to be executed as quickly as possible. it is unfair for descent people to have to waste our tax dollars feed and housing these animals. the money could be better spent in other areas.

What's all the fuss about the "death penalty"? In this state the death penalty is the same thing as life in prison. All the posts here seem to be pro death penalty and personally speaking, I have no problem with it. What I do have a problem with is the fact that Death Row is getting overcrowded. Inject a few of these scumbags and make some room.

Justice, if not served does not exist.  

Try, convict and execute if found guilty. I propose public execution at the Super Bowl, during halftime. Let people see we mean business.  I just am not sure what method should be used. People that are offended can tune out.

I think Memphis is getting to be a lost cause. It is getting worse and worse. The schools here pump out kids that have complete lack of respect b/c there is no fear punishment, trust me I know. And the population keeps pumping out  hordes of illegitamate children who grow up with a different father figure every 6 weeks. I met a woman with 4 kids last year and she was pregnant,every child had different dad and as for the one on the way she told me she had no idea who the dad was. I have never seen so many pregnant teens in my life, young teens at that. It is no suprise to me that we are having the problems we are having and they will get worse, its already on the way. The death penalty should be enforced, some say it is not a deterrent, but at least that will be one sicko out of circulation forever and taxpayers wont have to spend money on it. At least use it in situations where guilt is proof positive.

Let's take the death penalty out of the equation and lay some responsibility on the fathers and mothers of these children who do not raise their kids to have respect for life.  It is the upbringing of the child that everyone should be questioning.  It is just sad that there are four more young african-american men that are not going to have a chance to grow up and experience a good life.

To Dover: you are absolutely right, I didn't say anything about the poor woman who was brutally raped and murdered.  I guess what my point is is that it is an all too familiar story and the whole thing is sad.  Of course I feel horribly for her and her family: she has two children that will never grow up with their mother.  I just wish that the climate of the country was such that human life was taught to be valued and not just something that should or can be taken away in the blink of an eye.  I personally feel that all life is valuable in one way or another and people in this country do not seem to think that way, i.e. Randy's remarks.  Hope my remarks have been clarified.

Obviously the death penalty hasnt become a deterrant of major crime but perhaps bartlettman is right,public execution/follow thru and avoid the legal bs if absolutely sure they get the right ones without delay/I'm not sure/but maybe it could be a start since the death penalty is approved but not working.Also I agree with post stating Memphis is a lost cause,we need a major overhaul or a bulldozer to start with,West Memphis has become the best place to live that includes the name Memphis and thats just sad.

@ Vic – yes,  you clarified your feelings on the matter. I am also sad that so many in society have chosen this type of lifestyle. We used to worry about our children drinking and smoking, now it’s drugs, knives and guns before they are even teens. I cannot feel sympathy for those who rape and murder. Rape cannot be excused, it is horrific and committed by the weak and sick minded. Murdering someone for the sake of murdering them, cannot be excused. The death penalty is given but few are put to death. Life is about choices.  When those who choose the wrong route pay to the fullest extent…maybe we will see how daily life used to be, ‘respecting others and respecting the law’
