MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- The federal investigation of a businessman who
paid Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton $50,000 in a private land deal has
spread to the offices of the Memphis Area Transit Authority.
MATA
officials have been ordered to turn over hundreds of e-mails
surrounding the awarding of a $300,000 engineering contract to Elvin W.
Moon in 2006.
The federal grand jury subpoena seeks e-mails of MATA general manager Will Hudson and eight others.
Hudson says he has nothing to hide and his staff is cooperating.
Moon, a Los Angeles-based civil engineer, also says he's done nothing wrong.
The probe is focused on Moon's payment to the mayor after landing $702,000 in no-bid city road design contracts.
