Speak Up! Memphis

Tennessee No Smoking Law Applies to Bristol Motor Speedway

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) -- Bristol Motor Speedway officials are warning NASCAR fans that there will be no smoking in the stands this year.

A new state law that took effect in October prohibits smoking in most public facilities, including sports arenas.

Speedway spokesman Kevin Triplett says he's received a lot of complaints about the change, but also some calls from people happy about the ban.

The restrictions will apply to all seating areas, terraces and restrooms but not the concourses.

Smokers will be asked to extinguish cigarettes and cigars when spotted.

"In Germany, the *** first came for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak for me."-- The statement was written by the Rev. Martin Niemoeller, a German Lutheran pastor who was arrested by the Gestapo in 1938.

Seems like smoking is the next  thing we pass laws to ban yet dont have the manpower to enforce while real lawbreakers and criminals take a joyride. Many are probably laughing while they take a drag or a puff.I agree with above post our freedoms are in jeopardy.Pretty soon they will pass real laws they can enforce like playing music?too loud,oh wait they already do I just couldnt hear myself think from that 78 cady booming out to jungle love...or was it just a memphis thang.?

Whats next, no smoking in our own homes? Most people refer to American as the land of the free. Try leaving here. I can no longer smoke at my favorite restraunt because someone complained. Now NASCAR! Leats get real folks!!! These events are outside so your not in an enclosed place such as a restraunt. Maybe if the busybodies that keep dictating what I do in my time would focus on more important issues like immigration laws, making THE dumbasses learn english, not giving them the SSI benefits I worked for most of my life, no drivers licenses if no insurance, the list goes on. My grandmother was 107 when she died, she lived with smokers and smoked when she was younger. Bad move on the behalf of NASCAR I will stay at home and where I can smoke a cigerette without someone violating my rights!

Speaking of that, whatever happened to these laws about loud thump thump music and tinted windows.I see people going around with totally blacked out windows.Another thing,Whats with all the old police cars that are auctioned off and driving around Memphis like they are the police? That will soon be a very big issue to come. They should send those cars to the crusher.
