How very sad!  I wonder what the security is like at this facility?

This is so sad. Too many  facilities for the elderly  (public and private) do not properly investigate the backgrounds before hiring employees. The facilities are very expensive but they don’t do enough to secure the propertiy or keep the elderly safe. Many times, these crimes are committed by someone who is working, or has worked, in the nursing home.

And, not that it's an excuse, but the people who work in these places are usually grossly underpaid, thereby not always attracting the best of the workforce. That is not to say that some people that work there aren't doing the best they can though.

And, that is a very stressful job to have. Day after day, the level of despair and sadness is there. Not that it excuses someone's decision to hurt an elderly person, because NOTHING can EVER excuse that.  

Those types of people are right up there with animal and children abusers. In my heart I have to hold onto the belief that there is a special place UNDER H3LL for people like that.

Turns out it was someone she knew from church (was on the news last night). It appears that robbery was the motive.

So, the facility is cleared.

Wow...someone from church!  That stinks!

Her home was named for a saint, but police say what happened inside her apartment was the ultimate sin.  A 65 year-old woman was murdered and the suspect is someone she may have met at church.

Elnora Mitchell never missed church services at the Campbell Street Church of Christ in Jackson.

"We didn't know about it until Sunday afternoon. She was not here Sunday morning for worship. We became concerned because she always called or was here," Elder Walter Melms said.

Elnora Mitchell didn't show up for services because she had been bludgeoned to death in her apartment at St. Mary's Manor. Lawrence Wade, a fellow church member, is charged with her murder.

Jackson police said Wade and his wife visited Mitchell frequently her at apartment.

"The motive appears to be robbery. He went up and approached her about getting money in the past. During this incident we believe she either didn't have the money or wouldn't give it to her and he attacked her," police spokesman Mike Hale said.

That poor woman!

She obviously disrespected the intruder probably by not complying for a demand of oral #$@.  Pretty common in these cases not reported by the police or victim most of the time.  What does one see in old women to justify beating them to death.  I mean how much force is necessary to do the brave job of strong arm robbing them?

We need some medieval penalties for those that target the young, old and infirm.  Penalties that would turn a civilized persons stomach.
