MEMPHIS, TN - A federal judge has given former state Senator John Ford 60 days to report to prison to serve his 5 1/2-year sentence for bribery.
In November of 2007, Ford won a delay in his reporting date to prison.
He argued in court that locking him up would leave his youngest children without either parent since his ex-wife is in jail.
Tamara Mitchell-Ford, Ford's ex-wife, was sent to jail in November 2007, to serve a sentence of 11 months and 29 days for drunken driving.
Judge J. Daniel Breen delayed the prison report date and set a date of February 27th to review the matter.
Ford was under orders to report to a federal prison in Texas December 12th to begin a sentence of 5 1/2 years for taking bribes. Ford was convicted in April 2007, of accepting bribes in an FBI Sting called Operation Tennessee Waltz. Ford was convicted of taking $ 55,000 from a fake company the FBI set up called Ecycle. According to the FBI, Ford took the money and in exchange he said he would help pass legislation that would benefit the company Ecycle.
Ford was also indicted on charges of extortion and witness intimidation. He was found not guilty of witness intimidation, and the jury could not come to a unanimous decision on the charges of extortion.
