Robbers Shoot Pizza Hut Manager While Getting Money From Safe

MEMPHIS, TN - Police say robbers shot a Pizza Hut manager while he was trying to give them money from the safe.

According to investigators, the shooting happened at the Pizza Hut at 3578 Summer Avenue near Highland Street, Monday night, March 24, 2008.  Police say two men entered the store with a sawed-off shotgun and demanded money from the safe.  While the manager was trying to open the safe, one of the robbers shot him in the arm, according to police.

The manager was taken to the Med in critical condition.

Police are searching for the suspects and say their biggest lead is the video from a security camera at the store.

If anyone has any information about this shooting, call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.

Another sad case of disrespect.  When someone doesn't get the RE he demands what do you expect him to do?

As everyone here knows this story started a long time ago.  Unfortunately the die is cast.  Build more jails.  You can't rehab this kind of animal short of the very, very, few who are touched by Christ.  Throw away the key.

Also notice the manager was opening the safe when he was shot. He was doing what he was told.

People learn to shoot.  Minimum caliber 9mm.  Don't trust your life to a blowback pistol like a .380 or 32 acp or 22.  (Though as my father said of his 32 revolver - better a 32 in your pocket than a 45 at home in the dresser. God rest his soul.)  Don't cheap out on a weapon and test the ammo in it.

This happened to me - I have a .32 Baretta Tomcat pistol (blowback).  When I got it I ran a couple of hundred rounds of ammo through it including 50 rounds of hollow point.  Worked flawlessly.  Carried it of and on again in my pocket for a year or so. Was out one day at a friends where people were shooting and I thought I would blow the magazine off.  Failed to extract/stove-piped 3 times.  Could have been REAL embarrassing at the wrong moment. I hardly ever carry it now and I only carry BALL ammo in it.  It fires reliably.

I have a Kahr PM9 micro as a pocket pistol now.  It cuts my hands sometimes but it goes bang reliably with the Corbon +P ammo.

Get a locked action pistol with an extractor.  A 9mm is plenty.  (Though I dearly would love to get a 357 Sig - the Bartlett police made a good choice there) If you stick 2 full house  +P 9's in someone's chest and they want more the answer is not a 40 or 45 - it is a shotgun.

Though slammed by gun snobs the Glock is a decent pistol for carry by a private person.  If I was a cop I would want a pistol with a safety I could wipe on if I was going to lose my gun or a mag safety so I could drop the mag.  The Glock has neither - any idiot can pick it up and pull the trigger which is about all the complexity I want when confronted with that type of situation.

Remember, if the unthinkable happens, when you pull that pistol, it is on, and you should be thinking one thing - FRONT SIGHT - FRONT SIGHT - say it out loud when you practice so it is ingrained in your thinking.  My father would yell it at me any time I missed anything.

I may not be a star basketball player but I can from the draw from concealment and double tap 3 silhouette targets in 5 - 6 seconds max.  It is a skill attainable by almost anyone. I hope I never have to try it for real.  I want to live somewhere near water and not the Mississippi river.

What are we to do with the crime in Memphis it's getting worst every year, where are our city leaders are all of them in jail too, we can't rely on the police anymore they either won't come are come to late are maybe there aren't enough of them to cover the city to keep the citizen safe, the citizen of Memphis need to demand more from our officials; have we gotten so complacent with the way things are that we just accept crime, but we are and will be held ultimately responsible for the way our city is ran and misuses by our city afficials,we need to put people in office that is are responsible and held accountable, if not Memphis face a future that is uncertain and bleak.
