MEMPHIS, TN – Authorities say a Memphis fugitive, wanted for raping a child, was captured in Kansas City, Missouri.
According to the United States Marshals Service, Winfred Scott and his son Akeem Scott were indicted in 2005 for Rape of a Child. The State of Tennessee then issued a warrant for the two men. Marshals say Winfred Scott arranged to meet with investigators, but never showed up for the meeting. Instead, the father and son fled Memphis, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
In 2006, the U.S. Marshals Mid-South Fugitive Task Force tracked the two across the country, says the U.S. Marshals Service. Authorities say the men were followed by Marshals through many states including Florida, California and Colorado.
Winfred and his son Akeem were added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Top Ten Most Wanted in January of 2008.
According to authorities, the TBI and MSFTF were able to find Winfred Scott in Missouri, visiting his family. Marshals say when he saw the officers, he tried to run and hide, but could not get away.
Winfred is now at the Jackson County jail in Missouri, awaiting extradition back to Shelby County, Tennessee. His son Akeem Scott is still on the loose. Authorities believe he may be in Memphis, because he has family in Hickory Hill and in the western area of Memphis.
If anybody has any information about the location of Akeem Scott, call 1-800-TBI-FIND. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Akeem’s arrest.
