Toddlers Can No Longer Marry in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - What had turned into a kind of marriage crisis in Arkansas is over.

Governor Mike Beebe has signed legislation repealing a poorly worded law that had the effect of letting anybody get married as long as they had the permission of a parent.

When the measure was approved last year, the intent was to set 17 as the minimum marriage age for boys and 16 for girls. The only exception would be girls who are pregnant and they would need permission. But the final version has an extraneous word, "not." It read: "In order for a person who is younger than eighteen (18) years of age and who is not pregnant to obtain a marriage license, the person must provide the county clerk with evidence of parental consent to the marriage."

That would be anybody.

Governor Beebe rejected calls for a special session last year to make a fix. He said the chances of children getting married under the law were slim.

Hey, don't put down kissin' cousins.  I'm originally from Kentucky, the Lee family.  There's lots of Lee's first and second removed, that is why we are so brilliant if you totally forget the dullards.  lol.  You know Robert E. was greatly thought of on both sides.  He was one smart man.  Abraham wanted him at the start of the war, but he chose the South.  Those Virginia Lee's moved to Kentucky.
The Incans and the Hawaiians married brother and sister to keep the blood royal.  They simply killed off the malformed.  So we won't go there.
Now adays, folks don't even think about marriage.  They just bed hop, make the babies and have no idea who the daddy is for this one or that.  The aunt or grandmother usually raises the babies (I'm one of the grandmother's, except the parentage is known, just unable, so I can speak on this.)  At least my son married the second for his second, three weeks before the baby was due.  I raised him better; he just rebelled.  Finally he is growing up and manning up.  I would have taken the second also if he hadn't.    But thank the Lord, he has become a man and does have a lovely family.
