2 Year-Old Pennsylvania Girl Beaten With Game Controller Dies

YORK, Pa. (AP) - A 2 year-old Pennsylvania girl died after being beaten with a video game controller by her mother's boyfriend, police said Tuesday, April 8, 2008. Darisabel Baez's mother overheard the beating Sunday, April 6th, but did nothing until she realized the girl was unconscious, police said.

The girl was pronounced dead late Monday at Hershey Medical Center, police Lt. Ron Camacho said.

Homicide was added to the list of charges against Harve L. Johnson on Tuesday; he was already in jail on counts including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

The girl's mother, Neida E. Baez, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

It was clear from the bruises and other injuries on the little girl's body that Sunday was not the first time she had been abused, Dauphin County coroner Graham Hetrick told WGAL-TV. He said it was one of the worst cases of child abuse he has ever seen.

Baez, 19, called for an ambulance Sunday and said Johnson had brought the unconscious child to her, limp and wet from an attempt to revive her in a bathtub, a police affidavit said.

Johnson, 26, acknowledged beating the girl with a video game controller but did not say why, police said. Baez said Johnson had abused the girl in the past and that she heard the girl scream after Johnson beat her Sunday, according to the affidavit.

Detective Dana Ward said Baez was charged because she did not intervene or try to get help for Darisabel.

Johnson and Baez remained in custody Tuesday. His bail was set at $200,000; hers was $25,000.

Through police, family members declined requests for interviews Tuesday. Court officials said they did not know whether Johnson and Baez had lawyers to speak for them.

At what point will these mothers of these children realize that it's just not a good idea to leave their children alone at anytime with a fool that is not the father? Now don't think that one minute that I'd forget about these dead beat dads who are less than men to me if they don't take care of their children financally or spending time with them. If a lot of these childrens fathers would make sure that they stayed in the picture no matter what happened between them and the mothers these cowards would think twice about putting their hands on these kids. Would the real men please stand up this type of crime is going on just a little to much!

Amen

Raising children is hard at times.  Anything worthwhile is.  But I always have gratitude to God for my children.  They were given to my wife and I as a sacred responsibility.

But what has to be going on in these people's heads to hurt a child repeatedly?  Anyone's child. What is going on in the parent's head to allow it to happen?  I don't understand it and am glad I don't.

I don't understand it either.  Anyone who could abuse a child like this has no empathy; is less than human in my opinion.  And that mother is just as guilty as far as I am concerned.  God help the person who ever tried to hurt my child.  I wouldn't care what the consequences were, that would never happen!

this is sick, but there was a case a few years back where the boyfriend of this girl in Chattanooga. She went to work and for some reason her boyfriend took her 9 year old daughter and her 5 year old son to a cemetery, drug deal most likely. The little boy started to act up while they were there so the guy kicked him which made him cry more. He pushed and shoved and kicked the 5 year old boy all the way back to the apartment. When they got to there, he took the 5 year old boy into the bedroom, raped him, then put him into the bathtub. After the bath, the 5 year old child continued to cry after being beat and raped, he threw this 5 year old boy against the wall and killed him.
The 9 year old girl watched the entire thing, except the rape, which she heard.

Since this was in a Chattanooga newspaper, I don't think it happened in Memphis.  Amazing!

Within the past year it has happened at least twice - that I can remember.  They didn't use a game controller but they beat their girlfriend's kids to death.  If they will kill their girlfriends kid - then killing mine obviously wouldn't bother them

You are right....they are atavistic throw backs to prehistoric times.  Thesse savages care about nothing but themselves!  They obviously have small, under-developed brains.  It is a sad commentary on what the society has become and a frightening look at the future.  I am old enough to remember when you only heard about this kind of thing so rarely that it was shocking.  It is still shocking, but more so because it happens all the time.

The destruction of the family took place in our lifetime.

Welfare - Great Society - it destroyed men's places (mostly black) in the family.

We are in a second generation (sometimes third or fourth) of fatherless men.  And then of course there was Roe v. Wade and "the pill".  Both guaranteed to destroy our society's balance - that coupled with a destroyed currency mean middle and middle-upper class families can't afford and don't have large families as a rule anymore.  They have two parents working to go further in debt.

So now we have a whole generation of youth who have grown up without fathers and Mexicans flooding the country to replace the labor that was either never conceived or aborted away.  Construction wages haven't raised appreciably since 92 and have fallen in real terms.

It is no surprise that many youth will not work for it.  When I started in construction (1980) I could afford to live in an apartment, eat and drive on an entry wage.  Try that today.  It is basically impossible.

Our currency has been destroyed - inflation 3% - right - I do the shopping and cooking in my family.  More like 20% a year for the last three years.  More on many items.

Since 1913 the value of the dollar has fallen to 1/100 of what it was then.  If it falls much more and our children will be working too.

Grasp what that means - Grasp what it means that the Fed is printing 30+ billion in money PER day now. Grasp what it means for your children and maybe us.  Who knows when the scheme will fall.  The growth of our economy in the 20th is basically government debt spending financed by our income taxes.  Take away the government deficit and the money supply collapses.

It is no surprise Private Banks took over printing and lending our money the same basic year income taxes were implemented.

Many of these young displaced men who basically become savages.  I can't say the above caused it but it is a huge part of it.

Prepare for more - the ones growing up today are completely lost.

Where is Andrew Jackson when we need him.

Absolutely, add Ronald Reagan to that list, too.

It has been a long time since I have had someone to vote for.  Reagan 1980 was my first presidential vote.

Reagan couldn't implement half of what he wanted.  When he entered office the Fed (a private bank) was charging our Government nearly 20% interest on OUR OWN money to stop the stagflation they had created.

He was the last great leader our country had.  Though I have always considered myself a Republican and had a knee jerk reaction toward all Democrats - especially the Kennedys - I have read more and more about what JFK did and tried to do.  He was the Democrat's Ronald Reagan - cutting taxes - strong defense - and of course the last President to try and print real US currency that did not say Federal Reserve Note at the top.

He was far closer to Eisenhower than Nixon was.  Eisenhower's final speech sums up our trouble today though he could have never envisaged the welfare/medical complex and the outrageous growth of our Governments powers and reach.

Read his final speech sometimes - he knew who owned the legislative branch of our government.

Oh for someone to vote for!  I voted for someone in the primary - Ron Paul - a true pro-life conservative who understands what is destroying our nations wealth.  I just can't see myself voting for McFlipFlop backstabber.  I probably will given the alternative.

I want to reverse the disaster of our destabilization of the shah, and the return of the ayatollah, and the creation of the modern terror state, but I don't think we are going to do it.  Let's pick our strongman in Iraq and get out.

Reagan had a better idea - sell the Iranians parts to their Tomcat fleet and tell the Iraqis they are getting ready to attack!  Let them sort things out. Meanwhile back at the ranch I was pumping gas for 64 cents a gallon.  And no kids were dying for a neocon plan that will never be completed.  (I don't consider myself a neocon in anyway but the reversal of the Carter disaster would have given George Bush a place in history.  Enemies foreign and domestic stopped that.)

Pray for our country - We need it.  We are bleeding arterially from about a half dozen places and the present candidates are debating over how to bandage our scraped knee.
