Hey Herenton, I've live on this street for more than sixteen years and you have
NEVER paved my street. You give yourself a pay raise every year. We need to
consolidate city and county goverments and cut the waste. I did not want to move
out of my home but to stay here is economic sucide. My social security doesn't go
up 5% why should you get such a big raise as you did and then you're going to
reappraise all property next year. You don't even live in Shelby County. Everyone
that works in Shelby county should live in Shelby county to support the
infrastructure. You need to quit, Memphis sucks on ploice protection and your
leadership sucks worse of all Why don't you guit and leave, we don't want your kind
anymore. You have stole from the coffers too long GET OUT HERENTON.

I am so sick of Herenton.. why put more on us.. Isn't it bad enough that Mlgw is ripping us off.. I'm ready to pack up and leave Memphis.. because I am not comfortable living in a city with a mayor who gets a raise every year and we have to pay for it. and a light company that takes our money and live the high life and cuts us off for less than 20 bucks if we get behind on the bill.. I think the city government are screwballs and don't know how to budget the money, but they do know how to *** us. and take our money..

ITS A SAME I BROUGHT MY FIRST HOME HERE IN MEMPHIS.I HAVE BEEN IN IT ONLY 6 MONTHS AND THINKING ABOUT SELLING.I BROUGHT THE HOUSE BASED ON WHAT I COULD AFFORDED.SO NOW I FEEL LIKE MY BACK IS AGAINST THE WALL.IF ITS NOT MEMPHIS,LIGHT,GAS,AND WATER ITS THE CITY AND COUNTY TAXES.I WONDER HOW MEMPHIS FEEL VOTING HIM BACK IN FOR MAYOR.I LIVED BETTER THEN THIS IN NASHVILLE FOR 3 YEARS.LOOK I'M A DAD OF 5 KIDS AND A FIANCE.I'M THE ONLY ONE WHOSE WORKING NOW AND IT IS HARD.TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH EVERYDAY LIVE FROM THE MORTGAGE,MLGW,AND THE GAS PRICES.CAN THE LEADERS OF MEMPHIS,TN GIVE THE LOWER AND MIDDLE CLASS A BREAK. i've been saying it all along. If anyone has read any of my previous posting, I said this long ago it was going to happen. The city and the county were both going to jack up property taxes and what is going to happen...You can bet your bottom dollars that this is going to happen. I am sorry. The government of this city and this country are so unimaginitive that the only way they can think to raise revenue, instead of thier own selves and administration is to burden the citizens more.
Herenton don't give a rats azz if you like it or not. He'll tell you to leave this great city of you don't like it. Whorton will not say this, but feels the same. Neither care about you. Herenton got what he wanted. 4 more years. And the people that voted for him don't care if you pay more in taxes, they rent. And the ones that do own property will not be effectedby the increase because they pay rock bottom property taxes as it is. What DECENT WHITE person wants to live in Orange Mound and Frayser anymore.
This city and the county are collapsing in on itself. If you run off the tax base, you have no city. This is going to be the next Pittsburg, Philadelphia, and Allentown. There are not fortune 500 companies in this city. You cannot live off of minimum wages.

What the heck? I move from the crooked politics in AZ to THIS??  Your property taxes are deadly here and then to raise them?  We haven't closed on our house yet, but we may have to rethink this.  I hear Fayette County calling!  How on God's green earth could he let his jurisdiction just pop up 30 MILLION dollars in the hole?  Wasn't he paying attention?  Is this guy totally crooked? He gives everyone a 5% increase?  So I guess the city employees keep re-electing this dufus?  I thought he was resigning or something because everyone was dancing in the streets-must have missed that day in the news when he decided to stay in his cush job. What is up, Memphis? He's ruining your beautiful, beautiful city.

He says that city employees deserve a 5% increase in pay during a recession. I say that if they don't like what they are being paid, they need to look for other jobs. Tennessee has a right to work law. Exercise your right to find a different job if your not happy with your pay!!!

Perhaps if Mayor Willie Wonka would practice a little fiscal intelligence (like don't take a raise you don't deserve, don't hire your felon friends who have no ability to do the jobs for which they were hired) he wouldn't need to raise property taxes.  If you continue to tax the middle class out of existence, crime will only get worse as people get more and more desperate.  There won't be a safe place left in Memphis.  

I hope all the homeboys who voted Herenton enjoy their higher rents (well the ones who aren't section 8), house notes, and food and merchandise costs.  Willie Boy is retiring on yourAfrican sweat!!!!  Poetic justice.

If someone doesn't get  busy and recall this mayor, you will not have a city for anyone to live in. People have already left and planning to leave. Smaller tax base for those who are left so higher taxes, fees etc. whatever they can  stick on everyday citizens. It doesn't hurt them or their buddies .They get their money off the top. This all manipulation between Herenton & Wharton to force consolidation down your throat whether you like it or not. They want it their way not yours.  You are not getting better services for your money. They don't care how you have to struggle everyday to just survive. You have the chance to take this 'thing' out of office  and deny him not only the mayor's office but also the super 's job too.  He'll only suck another pension out for himself.This city needs to be rid of him for good. You can only hope the city council can hold him off til you get him OUT!

Just one more year...

One more year and we're leaving this crap-hole of a city. It's one of the saddest stories in America. Memphis has everything to be a first-rate, multicultural, tourist friendly, bustling city. Unfortunately the black racists that run it are only interested in "gettin' paid!" The lack of intelligence and quality in the city government is appalling as is the racist attitudes of so many who are willing to keep this city a complete crap-hole just to prove "dey's keepin' it real." If the blacks in this town would act as MLKJ begged all of us to we'd be making progress. Unfortunately the principle of judging people based on their character instead of their skin color is a completely foreign principle to many, many blacks in Memphis. Here's a clue: LINCOLN FREED THE SLAVES!

Again? Isn't memphis's Taxes Already High enough? This is crazy we deserve better than this! With Gas Prices high and food prices going up and much more! Before you know it Maybe half of memphis might leave you can't do this to us what have ever done too you? This is crazy we cant afford this is we can barley afford the taxes we already are paying!

To all those fools that re-elected herenton, is this one of those great things that herenton has done for the city? I bet this is one of those great leadership moves that you idiots always talk about. So how will it feel when you are paying more money? Will you still think that he is the mighty leader that you think he is but still can't prove? Even if you could post some great things that he has done, herenton will do everything he can to make you look like idiots. Maybe after all his supporters get kicked out of their houses because they can't make their payments because their taxes are so high, they will stop voting for him.

you can't get kicked out of government housing, you can get kicked out of section 8, as long as you pay your rent on time, you can stay in your home.
If you go to the shelby county assessors office web page, take a look at the paperty taxes that are levied on homes in orange mound and frayzer and hickery hood then look at the poperty taxes on zero lots in cordova and arlington and germantown.

I think that the Mayor is going to run the middleclass citizen's of Memphis, out of the city.  The City should be responsible for budeting the funds it has been given.  It is not fair to expect the citizen's to bail the city out, we can not afford to.  Gas prices are high! and more and more company's are laying off or leaving the city.  Your citizen's do not have the income's to pay more in property taxes.  Nor, does it have the funds it will take to give all city employees a 5% increase.  Any good business person knows you should pay people for performance, not give out free money.  I am sure that ALL CITY EMPLOYEES DO NOT DESERVE a 5% increase.

I think that the people who re-eleceted Herenton should be very proud of themselves. He has managed to raise taxes, cause more economic hardships on the middle-class, but NOT LOWER THE CRIME RATE in Memphis. For all of those who decided to keep Willie in office an extra four years, you are very ignorant because he is not looking out for your benefit. If it does not benefit him, his friends, or his neighborhood of WESTWOOD, he doesn't care. Next time people, don't just vote for him because he's black. GET HIM OUT OF OFFICE!!!! Let a more qualified person be the mayor, whether he/she is black, white, red, green, blue, or yellow. Willie get out of office!! But please don't go into the school system and mess it up like you did Memphis.

Setting aside the fact that Herenton and his cronies have scammed the poor and ignorant for so long that they don’t know how stupid they are for re-electing him, the taxes are not as bad as other parts of the country. There are areas in rural Indiana that are DOUBLE what the taxes are here on a $150,000.00 home. The problem isn’t the tax rate; it’s that the city is so poorly operated that no amount of tax revenue will ever be enough. Re-electing this guy is a prime example of why the people up North think southerners are stupid.
