Former Olive Branch Court Clerk Sentenced to 10 Years, Will Only Serve 1 Year Probation

HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - Former Olive Branch Municipal Court Clerk Jennifer Carson has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, with nine years suspended, after pleading guilty to embezzlement.

The 51 year-old Carson was charged with stealing $4,125. She was fired last September after an investigation into allegations that money was missing from the court department.

Carson handled money from cash bonds during her 10 years as municipal court clerk in Olive Branch.

DeSoto County Circuit Judge Bobby Chamberlin this week suspended nine years of the 10-year sentence and ordered Carson to serve one year of supervised probation. Carson was fined $2,000 and ordered to make restitution.
