MEMPHIS, TN – Memphis police say a man who was being carjacked while pumping gas shot at the carjacker.

According to investigators, the victim was pumping gas when a man walked up with a shotgun and demanded the keys to the victim’s truck.  The victim told the carjacker that the keys were in the lock of the gas cap.  Police say when the suspect walked around the truck, to take the keys, the victim pulled his gun and started shooting at the carjacker.

The suspect ran from the scene.  It is not known if he was injured during the shooting, according to investigators.  Police say the suspect left a gold Acura TL, that he had carjacked from 6548 Quince Road, at the scene.

Investigators say the victim has a handgun permit and was legally carrying the weapon.
