MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis Police announced Tuesday, April 22, 2008 they have arrested 64 people on prostitution charges.
Police say the arrests were made during an undercover operation conducted over three days. Investigators say 55 of the arrests were made within a mile and a half of schools and two of the arrests included MLGW workers who were picking up prostitutes while on the job.
Also, police say one of the men arrested was the Director of Public Housing in Franklin, Tennessee and another man was arrested for picking up a prostitute while his 7 year-old daughter was in the car.
Police also seized 42 cars during the operation.
Eyewitness News Everywhere received a statement from MLGW President & CEO Jerry Collins, regarding the arrests of two MLGW workers, on Tuesday, April 22.
"We at MLGW are disappointed in this alleged incident involving two employees identified in a Memphis Police Department report. We take very seriously any actions that adversely affect the reputations of MLGW, its employees and our service to the community. Our customers hold us to a high standard of conduct, and the vast majority of our 2,700 MLGW employees exceed that standard. There are consequences on the rare occasion when employee conduct falls short. As the legal process runs its course, MLGW is conducting its own internal investigation into the matter."
