Time has run out for 'The First 48" in Memphis.
The cable TV show follows Memphis detectives as they try to solve homicides in the first 48 hours after they happen.
Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin did not renew the city's contract with the show because city leaders feel it portrays Memphis in a bad light.
Councilman Myron Lowery is glad the production has gone dark. Lowery says, "Every city has its share of murders and crime, but this gave an inaccurate portrayal of Memphis as having too many."
Other feels that it's not the show, but the crime in the city that needs to be addressed. "I think the real problem is it portrays the high crime rate which we have, so the real problem is let's reduce the cime rate, let's hire more police," says Councilmember Jim Strickland.
Another issue some city leaders had with the show being here is the city didn't benefit financially from the show. It's unknown when the last taped episodes of The First 48 in Memphis will air.
