MEMPHIS, TN – Memphis Police say they have caught the man suspected of sexually assaulting women after breaking into their homes and robbing them.
Memphis Police Department Spokesperson, Detective Monique Martin, says a man is in custody, but has not yet been charged. According to Martin, police received a tip following a news conference that was held on Friday, May 30th. Martin says the tipsters saw the man’s pictures on the news and called police. Martin says the suspect is being held while police build their case.
Police say the suspect may be responsible for home invasions and sexual assaults that happened at apartment complexes in the areas of Quince and Kirby, Macon and Sycamore View, and Trinity and Germantown Road.
Police say the sexual assault victims range in age from 15 to 33 years-old.
According to investigators, the latest case happened around 8:00 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2008, in the 6500 block of Whitten View. Police say in that case a teenage girl was home alone when the suspect knocked on the door.
Most of the incidents happened in the daytime and police say in four of the nine robberies the suspect committed sexual battery. According to police, one of the victims said she was raped.
