MEMPHIS, TN - "Mack," the shepherd mix puppy who was found stabbed, beaten, and spray-painted in a North Memphis driveway, was put to sleep Saturday, May 31.
Mack was rescued in April 2008 after he was found suffering from a stab wound to the back. Memphis Humane Society officials say since Mack was about 5 months-old, his bones were still growing and developing - making them soft and brittle. Mack had no feeling in his hind legs and Humane Society officials say in order for his bones to get stronger, they would need to bear weight and be stressed. Mack would not ever be able to bear that weight on his back legs, meaning he would continue to unknowingly hurt himself.
"We’ve always adopted the philosophy of “Do No Harm” when deciding on a treatment plan for one of our injured, sick or abused animals. We had to put that philosophy into action where Mack was concerned. It was not an easy decision to make, however it was the best decision for Mack," said Ginger Morgan, Executive Director.
