Memphis, TN- The world's oldest profession is alive and well in South Memphis.
Despite a recent Memphis Police "Blue CRUSH" sting, hookers are still in business! Police shut down an apartment complex at Elvis Presley Blvd. and Dunn more than a year ago due to drugs and prostitution.
"They can still go in there. There was an abandoned house around here and they would still go in there and get high and set fires. It needs to be torn down," says neighbor Iris Johnson.
On the property, we found used condoms on the ground. Inside one of the units that had been padlocked shut, we saw a soiled mattress, women's lingerie and more condoms.
"They walk up and down the street all day and all night long. There was a man out there chasing one and he had his pants off," says Randy Johnson.
In the last month, police arrested more than 60 women. Nine women were arrested at the intersection of North Parkway and Manassas, five near Chelsea and North Hollywood, eight along Elvis Presley and five near Third and Brooks.
Memphis Police did tell us today they will respond to complaints about prostitution.
In the City of Chicago, the police department recently started posting pictures of all men arrested for soliciting prostitutes on its website. You can see the men's names, and where the arrest happened. The department hopes the embarrassment factor will help cut down on prostitution in the city.
