JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - A West Tennessee high school athlete collapsed and while participating in a basketball camp and later died.
Fayette County Schools Superintendent Myles Wilson said 16 year-old Anferee Lewis of Fayette-Ware High School in Somerville collapsed during the team camp Tuesday at South Side High School.
Officials said Lewis was later pronounced dead at s hospital.
South Side athletic director Len Jeffries said Lewis had just been substituted into a game and ran up and down the court a couple of times, then collapsed.
Jeffries said the youth had not had any contact with any other player.
Lewis' mother, Michelle Chearis, told The Jackson Sun the athlete had a seizure last year, but doctors found nothing medically wrong with him.
An autopsy is being conducted.
