MEMPHIS, TN – Memphis Police say three people have been charged in the case of a 16 year-old boy who died after being shot in the chest.
According to police, Jamie Nelson, 31 and Monteria Holmes, 20, have been charged with First Degree Murder in the shooting death of 16 year-old Tevin Smith. The third suspect, 19 year-old Kevin Carter was charged with Facilitation of a Felony to wit First Degree Murder.
Witnesses told police Smith was walking down the 1900 block of Clifton Avenue in Frayser when a Chevy Avalanche pulled up. That is when, police say, the boy was shot in the chest.
Police spotted the pick-up truck at Hollywood and James and arrested two of the suspects. The third suspect was arrested in the 1800 block of Pinedale, according to a Memphis Police Department spokesperson.
Detectives say Smith was rushed to the Med in extremely critical condition where he later died.
