Memphis, TN -- Eyewitness News Everywhere has uncovered new information about a Memphis contractor and pastor accused of ripping off several customers. He may also be running a phony church.
We told you about Hermon Gillum in an Eyewitness News Everywhere investigation earlier this week. Thursday, June 26, 2008, we uncovered he's running a small church in Frayser that claims to be affiliated with the Church of God in Christ. But COGIC officials say no such church exists.
Faith Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ is about the size of a shed and is located on an otherwise empty parcel of land on Dalebrook in Frayser, just steps away from Gillum's house.
Gillum, who has dodged our cameras for two days, says he is a legitimate pastor and that the church is affiliated with COGIC. COGIC officials in Memphis are investigating the situation but say all affiliated churches are listed on the COGIC website. We checked and there's no mention of Faith Pentecostal Temple or Pastor Hermon Gillum in Tennessee.
Gillum still refuses to answer questions from Eyewitness News Everywhere about the four people who have approached us claiming they were ripped off by his work as a contractor. One of the victim's won a $1200 judgment against Gillum and says she was never paid. Gillum will only say "That's none of your business" and that he has hundreds of satisfied customers.
