MEMPHIS, TN – A dog rescue group says a 10 week-old puppy was found starved, dehydrated, full of hook worms, and chewed off her own foot.
According to Linda Sutphin with “Dogs 2nd Chance” animal rescue group, the puppy was found by a home owner, on Wednesday, July 11, 2008, in Frayser. The homeowner said the puppy was found after the people who were renting the house left suddenly, leaving a junk pile on the curb, said Sutphin.
Sutphin believes the puppy’s foot may have been caught in a big rat trap and had to chew her own paw off to get free. But she says that is just a guess, “Only God knows for sure.”
Northgate Animal Hospital Veterinarian, Dr. Gullett, said there was no way the leg could be saved and she would be better off with out it, according to Sutphin.
Sutphin named the 10 week-old puppy Spunky, because when she arrived at the animal hospital, she was barking and wanting to play. Sutphin says Spunky is expected to recover from the amputation in about two weeks.
