KINGSPORT, Tenn.(AP) - The mother of a 2 year-old Kingsport boy who died after climbing into a hot car while both parents napped has accepted a plea deal offered by the state.
Court papers filed Monday show that in exchange for Shannon Gibson pleading guilty to reckless endangerment, she will not be prosecuted on a reckless homicide charge.
Gibson was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days of unsupervised probation.
Authorities were called to the home in August 2005 after Shannon and Anthony Gibson found their son Parker unresponsive in the family car.
They said they put him down for a nap and then took one themselves. When they woke up, he wasn't in his bed.
Charges remain pending against Anthony Gibson.
