MEMPHIS, TN – Police say a woman is behind bars after she bashed her boyfriend over the head with a wine bottle.

According to investigators, it happened around 3:00 a.m., July 18, 2008, at Hollywood and Golden.

Police say the couple had been drinking and got into a fight after the boyfriend told the woman it was time to go home.  Witnesses told police that the woman then got mad and smashed a wine bottle over the man’s head.

Police say the man was able to get onto his bicycle and ride about 2 blocks before he collapsed.  When officers got to the scene, the man’s bicycle was missing.  Police say someone stole the bike while the man was lying unconscious in the middle of the street.  A woman who lives in the neighborhood told Eyewitness News Everywhere, knowing the area; she would not be surprised if someone stole his wallet as well.

Investigators say the girlfriend has been charged with aggravated assault.
