Baby Allegedly Poisoned by Mom, may have Permanent Brain Damage

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Doctors on Friday said children suffering from high levels of sodium in their blood - like a 4 month-old infant allegedly poisoned with salt water by his mother this week - are at high-risk for permanent brain damage, if they survive.

None of the doctors are directly involved with the case of Noah King, of Tennessee. Police believe the infant's mother injected him at least five times with salt water.

The 21 year-old Amber Brewington has been arrested in Pittsburgh on a charge of attempted homicide.

Noah remains in critical condition.

Police said Brewington claimed she was trying to hasten the death of a sick and suffering child.

But Pittsburgh police Cmdr. Thomas Stangrecki said investigators believe all of Noah's illnesses are directly related to his mother's actions.
