Bartlett, TN -- A Bartlett security company is warning its Mid-South customers to beware of people coming to the door, claiming to sell or upgrade alarm systems.
Clyde Harden of Interactive Security Electronics, says it may be a competitive sales tactic, or it may be crook looking for a score. Either way, he recommends you don't let anyone in without proper identification.
Harden has sent a warning notice to all his clients telling them about cases where people have gone door-to-door, asking questions about family schedules and asking when people are home. They're also asking for social security card numbers and other personal information, the note says.
Harden acknowledges another security company could be behind the solicitations, but he doesn't recommend anyone allow the strangers inside their home. If you're interested in hearing what they have to say, he suggests getting a look at the person's state issued I.D. card and getting the phone number to his company. Then, he says, call and make an appointment to hear the company's offer.
