MEMPHIS, TN – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has added a Memphis man to its Top Ten Most Wanted list.
Investigators say 32 year-old Ernest Haleem Smith is wanted by the Memphis Police Department for Criminal Attempt to Commit First Degree Murder. According to the TBI, Smith threw boiling water on his girlfriend and then beat her in the head with the pot on December 20, 2006. Detectives say the woman was badly burned on her face, chest and legs.
TBI officials say Smith has a lengthy criminal past that includes drug charges, assault, burglary, larceny and failure to appear.
Investigators say Smith is an African-American man with brown eyes and black hair. Smith is 6’1”, weighing around 230 pounds. Detectives say Smith has a scar on his left hand.
The TBI says Earnest Smith should be approach with caution and urges anyone who might see him to call the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that will lead to Smith’s capture.
