COVINGTON, TN – Police say a 60 year-old Tennessee woman was hit in the leg by a stray bullet while she was watching TV.

According to Covington Police, the shooting happened around 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2008, on Rose Street in Covington, Tennessee.

Police say the accused shooter, Shanta McKinney, had been in a fight with another man over a woman.  According to investigators, McKinney started shooting at the man when he saw him in a car that was driving through the neighborhood.

Detectives say one of the bullets went through the wall of 60 year-old Ernestine Jones’ home, hitting her in the leg.  Jones is a school teacher at Crestview Middle School in Covington, according to police.  Investigators say Jones’ injury was not life threatening.

Police say McKinney has been charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.  More charges are pending in this case, according to investigators.
