You know when my 8 y/o daughter dropped my cell phone in the bathtub I grounded her from the computer and TV. I think killing her might have been a bit too much. But then again I come from a culture where hanging a knot is not a valid reason for gang lynchings months later.

If you can't be honest where the crime problem is in this community - go on down to criminal court to testify sometimes. Look around.

It is definitely whitey's fault.

I have been hearing it for years, whitey this, whitey that.

Never a look at their own behavior or God forbid someone question their child's behavior.

Ask the people by Marquette park what they thought about the basketball goals, that for years served neighborhood's children? The neighborhood kids couldn't play basketball in the park, because the goals were taken over by a bunch of 20 plus year old thugs, who stood in front of family's houses and publically urinated facing the houses, drank beer, listened to loud Rap music late at night, and yelled obscenities at housewives. And it was foremerly a nice family neighborhood.

Thank God after months of fruitless complaining to the city about a bunch of animals turning their neighborhood into a thug hangout, some neighborhood men grew a set, and cut down the goals their children used to play on! They were called racists by the city and the paper. Just for not wanting a bunch of loud, public urinating, thieving, yelling, rap music playing thugs sitting right in front of their biggest investment. I can see them thinking when they moved in - wow honey look at the nice park that Jr. can play in right across the street!!

I tell you what - mom of 2 - put those goals across the street from your house and see what song you sing. You know, you might think it was normal.

As a matter of fact when I go in a black neighborhood and see where there used to be basketball goals and they are torn down - are the blacks in that neighborhood racists?????? - or do they just not want a bunch of thugs hanging out in front of their house?????? Are they different than the families at Marquette Park?

If taxes had just been higher so we could hire more illiterate MCS teachers this crime would have never happened. For the price it cost to send a kid to the MCS (MOST of which a white kid would be assaulted daily in) you can send them to St. Marys or St. Agnes. And they want more.

You know how people agree with you face to face on these issues? - it is just that they don't want to be involved in a violent confrontation that they KNOW will happen if they state their mind. It is easier to put up the For Sale sign.

It is time for blacks to turn on the people in their community who make it unlivable. They used to do it when there were fathers back in the 50's and 60's. Now there is just "my baby daddy".

In Shelby County Tn blacks are not only doing most of the crime. They are also doing the most violent. F.Y.I., We as white people aren't going to make the black community do anything. Thats part of their racial protocol. They feel it's their problem and that they should handle it. Thats the way it really and sadly is. The divide is much more deep than you can imagine. Now I don't mean to sound harsh or abrasive, but, since they feel so strongly about that then we should abide. Look, they are not going to listen to us anyway. Right now MOST of it is black on black crime. Until it turns to something else we should stop bellyaching about it. As far as Lester Street goes, God bless those children that were in that house. The reality of it is even THAT is a black problem and they will fix it. We, in the white community know that it will never happen and it will keep spinning out of control. Remember what the mayor of New Orleans said right after Katrina? He said it was a black problem and that they would fix it with black money. He said they didn't want white money down there. Guess what ? I abided by his wishes. And to think people wonder why it's taking so long to get that rebuilt down there. This NEW segregation is something they have come up with.It's not coming from us.

Just a note to all those looking to move, the Gulf Coast of MS is wonderful. However, if you are a criminal and read this, don't you dare move down there. It is a beautiful place and nearly crime free in the right areas. A town around there had their first murder of the year on DEC 27 of last year! Stuff still happens, but not like here. I wish the people on here could start a nice community where there is no crime and always great discussions. My wife and child are already there, and I will soon be on my way. I can't wait. East Memphis, I agree with you. I don't post on here unless something has really gotten to me and this has gotten to me. I am past the point of correcting a "homeboy" for his or her (in which case a "homegirl") incorrect grammar usage or spelling. I know some people don't want to rise past their illiteracy and my trying to help is a lost cause. The best thing for you to do at this point East Memphis, is to find another topic on this wonderful site about this wonderful city and respond on that.
I know I appreciate that there is still someone who cares about the decency in and of Memphis and is not letting their "my-momma-says-I-don't-need-an-education-because-I-can-just-be-a-drug-dealer-or-a-crackwhore" excuse be the reason they still live in poverty.
If this makes me a "hater" then nice to meet you. The only reason someone is a "hater" in the first place is because the one doing the name calling has nothing intelligent to say to backup their arguement so they come up with dumbass word.

I really hope people are taking what East Memphis says with a grain of salt. It's obvious he's using any means necessary to justify his irrational racist views.

If he had actually decided to base his beliefs on FACTS, then he would find:

There are about 30.1 million African Americans over the age of twelve in the U.S. (1) (and thus, eligible for consideration in crime data), if blacks commit 1 million violent crimes a year (the rough total for the most recent year on record) (2), this means that even if we assumed each crime had a unique perpetrator (in other words, if there were no multiple offenders--obviously not the case), the maximum percentage of blacks who were violent criminals, as a share of all blacks, would be 3.3 %. Meaning that at least 96.7 % of blacks WILL NOT commit a violent crime this year, let alone against a white person, let alone against a white stranger, let alone against us(3).

So, if the 3% of blacks who will commit a violent crime in a given year, somehow prove that blacks are dangerous and to be avoided, then why don't the 97 % who won't commit such a crime, equally prove that blacks are non-violent and perfectly safe to be around? After all, why should the acts of a maximum of a million people, be seen as a better indicator of what the group is like, than the non-acts of the other 29 million or so?

And of course, if we are to take statistics such as these to indicate a group's dangerousness, then whites should have intense bias against other whites. After all, we are five times more likely to be victimized violently by another white person than by a black person (4), and each year, far more people are killed by occupational diseases and injuries--resulting from inadequate safety and health standards in white owned corporations--than are killed in street-level homicides, let alone those committed by blacks (5). Yet rarely do whites seek to avoid other whites because of our documented predisposition to corporate fraud and misconduct (think Enron, think the S&L swindle, think Bhopal, India). *Tim Wise

Again, if East Memphis actually based his views on facts, instead of irrational racism, hatred, and situational statistics and situational ethics, he would find that he's been living his life in a cloud of confusion.

But persons like East Memphis are not prone to researching facts that turn his entire belief system on his head because then he would have to live the rest of his days with the fact that his entire belief structure and prejudices were based on lies and mistruths, and let's face it; for anyone who is over 40 to learn that their entire life has been a lie is not an easy pill to swallow.

So please, have pity for East Memphis. We can only hope that he might overcome his irrational prejudices and hatreds and fidn the light of truth by actually researching facts, but it's a longshot. Instead, look on his comments with humor and understand that these are not facts he spews but instead, the mathematics of hate. Use him as a measuring stick of how NOT to behave.

Selective Incapacitation [Santa Monica, CA: Rand Corporation, 1982]; Todd Clear, "Backfire: When Incarceration Increases Crime," Oklahoma Criminal Justice Research Center, at: www.doc.state.ok.us/DOCS/OCJRC/Ocjrc96/Ocjrc7.htm., 1996). So, if blacks committed one million violent crimes in 2004, and 70% of these were committed by 7% of the offenders, then 30% were committed by the remaining 93% of offenders. 30% of 1 million offenses is 300,000 offenses. 300,000 represents roughly 93% of 325,000. If the remaining 70% of offenses (675,000) were committed by 7% of the population, this means that these crimes were committed by roughly 23,000 hardcore offenders (approximately 7% of 325,000). Thus, the overall number of black violent criminals in the current year would be roughly 350,000 persons (325,000+23,000), which would amount to approximately 1.1% of the black population, age 12 and over.

Im not going to say that white people are perfect or don't commit crimes, but anyone that disagrees with the fact that blacks generaly speaking are more hostile and commit more crimes in general, is an ignorant person. The ghettos in this country are not occupied by white people, but are heavily populated with blacks on welfare. Ask yourself this, how many white people do you see selling crack on the sides of roads. Your standard black filled city's are like jungles with apes running around killing, rapeing, stealing anything they can. I'm not even racist, I can ask anyone of my African American friends they will easily agree, if you can't already understand this, then your who i'm talking about.

A perfect point of how single minded Black people think is there campain of " Stop black on black crime", what are they saying? That instead of the Apes killing off themselves and doing the world a favor, it is better to kill a white person? Thats why Blacks are where they're at, stuck in there jungles.

Oh and i don't expect anyone of the Black race to agree, they just prove my point for me.

I wish people would stop using national statistics and remember that we are talking about Memphis. Thats like saying that trucks are more popular than cars in Memphis and use Millington's stats to prove it. Its two different areas! Memphis=city. Millington=rural. So I don't care what the national stats say. We're not talking about a national problem. We're talking about Memphis and what could be done to correct our problem. Yes, this topic was from out of the city, but it relates to Memphis. How many times has a kid been killed in Memphis over something stupid? Find that stat.
So, from now on, why don't you try and prove your point using local stats. That would make more sense, wouldn't it? Oh, wait, I forgot that making sense isn't part of most people's point. Its just trying to cover up the 2000lb. gorilla(sp?) in the room.

Well all he needs is someone to put a shotgun in his face and blow it off. What do ''these'' people think about? Dexter Cox, Lester Street and on and on!! Do they even think about the repercussions of killing? Does it matter? Has welfare and food stamps prepared them for a life of prison? Knowing that the Goverment takes care of them on the outside and now the State takes care of them on the inside!!!! You know the Former Soviet Union is not looking so bad afterall!! I have been 2 times and I was never looking over my shoulder or afraid for my life..

Killing an infant is a crime. But a bigger crime is to produce faulty xbox consoles and selling them to billions of innocent children and stealing trillions of Dollars from hard working parents. Microsoft’s crime is hushed under the carpets but the action of one desperate and sick man (he should have killed Microsoft’s CEO) is advertised and commented on widely.
Microsoft promises to replace all the broken Xboxs, but don’t believe them: they found some excuse not to replace mine.
XBOX and MICROSOFT SUCK !

F*** that xbox! Now a child is gone from her family over a stupid *** game that could of been replaced if broken. His own daughter, how could he. Now his stupid *** can't play any games, unless with a man. Plus, he will never see his precious daughter again. He is really a dumb *** loser who will pay for what he has done.
