A child should stay in a child's place!!! Once again the problem with our youth starts at home. Alot of today's children have no respect for their elders and think that they can't be told anything. Children please tell me what do you learn when you don't listen???? If parents took a larger roll and responsibility in the things that their children are doing we may not have as big of a problem that we do with today's youth. Parents we need to stop trying to be our kids friends...that's not our role. We've allowed so many of our children fall out of our reach....they are our future we need to nurture and educate them so that they are ready for the world as adults.
I heard the young lady on the radio this morning giving her side of the story and I could only shake my head. It's a shame that this child will miss 180 days of very much needed education but the discipline has to come from somewhere!!

This is a shining example of why only people old enough to pay a cell phone bill, should have a cell phone. I think the teacher should have slapped her back, regardless if she is a child or not. She should have better home training in the first place. She should be expelled, not suspended, because she's sending the wrong message to other kids at the school that it's okay to do that to a teacher. Teachers already don't get paid enough, now they have to worry about their own physical safety at work. I think she's a sad, mad, sick, little child, I really do.

Cell phones should be checked at the door. If this child had enough ordasity to ignore the teacher's order to get off the phone, then decide that you are going to assault the authority figure. Then I truely feel that her little butt should do every piece of time that has been given to her and not a minute less. Q? Where are the parent(s) in this? Are you telling me that parents don't want to be parents anymore and they rather be self indulged and leave their rug rats for society to have to deal with? I know some people may think that we should not blame the child for this that this is her parents responsiblities....but in actuality the child is old enough to know wrong from right...So in this case the child is totally on her own in this one...

What is really going on with the youth of today? You could not pay me to slap my teacher when I was in school. I would not have live to tell about it. Everyone is talking about parents having control over they children. Today, parents seem like they are scared of they own children. The children has became parents, and the parents have became children. You have to many parents want to be their child/childrens best friend. Thanks to the goverment who tells the children to call the police on their parents if they spink them. Adults now are scared of children. If you see them in the streets you scared to say anything to them because you might have to fight the parents.
My hat go's out to the teachers here in Memphis! I would not teach for all the money in China, and Lord knows I need it!
A child smack me I will have to make bond, because I'm going to pull out the rod like the good book tell you too!
Memphis City School council must be crazey don't want these bad miss behaving kids paddle. Why they setting in those big nice seats on television teachers are going through hell!

I agree, trouble with our youth starts in the home BUT if they'd left the paddles in the principals' offices maybe this wouldn't have ever happened. Control has been taken away from our educators and put in the hands of the children. Put the little girl in jail for awhile and beat her butt daily.
