I urge every citizen to speak up & voice your concern as what happened to our business can happen to you too. Our business was 47 yrs old when this happened. We have a death associated with exposure as our insuror CNA did not honor our policy, changed our claim from "sewer explosion to sewer backup" to reduce their financial obligation & they use the statements of jerry collins as their foundation.

As one may guess, the city maintains they are not responsible for the devastation. So, if not the city, who is ?

I urge every citizen to send a message of protest to the mayor, city council & local representatives. This could happen to you.

In March of this year, just a couple of months before Joseph Lee was forced out of the president's office at MLGW, the company issued a news release from Fitch ratings. The report dated January 14, 2007 announced, " 'AA' financial rating from Fitch solidifies MLGW's strong financial leadership and community benefits." Fitch Ratings Agency looks at "several factors in determining the rating. Among them, the quality of management, economic diversity of the service territory and the ability to pay down debt."

The news release was an obvious attempt to make us think that Joseph Lee's management and his management team were doing a good job. But when this is viewed in light of the company's past ratings with Fitch, the truth comes out. MLGW's previous president, Herman Morris, left office in December 2003 leaving MLGW with a 'AAA' rating from Fitch. In this light, the previous paragraph suddenly looks like MLGW's current PR folks have a knack for twisting the truth.

The one thing that MLGW can't twist is this: Now JD Powers & Associates have given the company the worst customer service satisfaction rating that MLGW has ever gotten—DEAD LAST. In fact, the last time MLGW received a good rating from JD Powers was in 2003.

The Herenton Administration, Joseph Lee, and Edmund Ford have done their best to make the public believe that Herman Morris and his staff at MLGW were anything from bad managers to criminals. But here is the truth: You can't lie about the awards that MLGW received under the Morris administration, and these awards prove that MLGW was an exemplary organization under Herman Morris' direction. Take a look:

AAA Bond Rating, Standard & Poor's, 2003
AAA Bond Rating, Fitch, 2003
AAA Bond Rating, Moody's Financial Advisors, 2003
Best Corporate Communications Department, American Business Awards, May 2003
Black Business Directory, Best Company for Minorities to Work For
Professional Development Award, Junior League, May 2003
AAA Bond Rating, Moody's Investor Services, 2001
AAA Bond Rating, Standard & Poor's, 2001, 1998
Gold Award for Competitiveness Achievement, Association of Metropolitan Water
      Agencies
Best Utility in the South, JD Power & Associates, 2000
Utility of the Month, Electric Power & Light Magazine, April 2000
Tennessee Quality Excellence Award, Tennessee Quality Association, 1999
Tennessee Award for Excellence, Tennessee Center for Labor Management
      Relations, 1999
Top Ten Utility Companies in America, Site Selection Magazine, 1999
Outstanding Consumer Confidence Report, American Water Works
      Association. 1999
Tennessee Award for Quality, Level III, 1998
Greater Memphis Award For Quality, 1998

ISSUE

I had an illness that started last year. Since then I have had a hard time just staying on top of my bills with MLGW. I have been out on leave from my work per my doctors request. I have been waiting on disability checks from my work to be able to pay MLGW. They stated since my bill was in the 1,400.00 range that I should apply for on-track. I applied for on track just for them to turn me down.
They said that I didn't make enough money to be in the program due to being on leave. When I showed them proof of my income and my doctor releasing me to go back to work recently they stated that I made to much money. I came up with the money by grace of god to make a payment total of 630.00 on may 10th. The representative notated on the paper that I would still owe 630.54 on may 25th. I advised her that I could not pay the full amount on the 25th but only a partial amount of 300.00. she stated to come in by the 25th and try to pay as much on the remaining balance as possible and make further arrangements. I left the main location and they turned my services back on that day. Then the next day (may 11th) they turned my services back off and took my water meter. I even had the paper showing the arrangement that I made. After hour and hours of calling in to the after hour line my services were finally turned back on. Then they turned around and turned my electricity back off again the next day. I had to go downtown once again and discuss the issue. At that time the representative advised me that they made a mistake again and tried to applogize. I left again and it was back on when I got home.

Today is now the 24th and tried to make my payment early. I went into the location today to make the payment as we discussed last time on the 10th. The representative at the counter told me that i would have to pay it off to keep my services on since thats the amount the representative wrote on the paperwork last time. I advised her that the representative told me last time that I could pay as much as possible and that you would make arrangements. She declined to take the payment or set up arrangements and advised me to go to the back office. i went to the office and sat their for 20 minutes. During that time I saw a manager assisting other people at the counter. I went to another employee and asked what was taking so long. At that same time the manager that i saw assisting other people that were in line behind me called me back to the front counter. She advised me that since the representative wrote the full balance on the paper that i would have to pay that. I tried to explain that they needed to stop giving me misinformation and requested to speak to her manager. She advised me to have a seat. i did as I was asked. I sat there and every 10 minutes for an hour I made them find the manager to see what was taking so long. she advised me that her manager was on the phone and they were trying to contact her. She then advised me that her manager did not work in the same building and was on a personal call at the time. I became extremely frustrated that i was sitting there for a whole hour while the person I needed to resolve my issue was taking PERSONAL calls during business hours. I became upset and started to raise my voice. I asked the manager for the complaint department address and SHE REFUSED to provide me with an address to write a complaint to. She instead handed me a piece of paper to fill about my issue that still provided no address.

I then asked the manager how much longer i would have to wait and she offered to send her manager an email stating that i was still waiting. I became OUTRAGED at that point. I have wasted all most all of my free time for no resolution to my issue. While the manager and I were going back and forth about how long I have been waiting the security guard asked me to lower my voice. I complied with her request. She then told me that I needed to leave the building and started to walk towards me as if she was going to grab my arm. I pulled away from her and told her not to touch me and that I would leave. i stated again that i wanted the complaint address and the manager still refused to give it to me.
They then asked me to leave again.

I then advised that i would contact local news and laywer if needed and she smiled and said go ahead.

I feel that I had extremely poor customer service needless to say. My issue still is not resolved and my services are set to be shut off tomorrow.

If anyone can give me ANY advice of what I need to do to resolve this issue the please do so immediatly. I am not sure how much more I can take with dealing with them.
HELP NEEDED

I havent heard anything about them hiring...or being willing to train new employees. I know people have been complaining about their energy bills and they are high and mine have been to. I'm scared to turn on the heat, air, water for fear that I might owe 500 for taking a bath everyday or cooking food. This past year, I have had the highest bills ever. I don't burn that much electricity. I would say about the same as last year, but my bill doesn't reflect that. Its bad when people get a electric bill that is more than their car note or rent.
