As an advocate of the child care industry, we at Child Care Provider Empowerment Association (CPEA) address all concerns of our members.

I have received a letter of complaint from the owner of the Learning Connection Daycare Center. Please review the summary of the letter from the Learning Connection below.

“I am writing to dispute three violations which have been charged against my business, The Learning Connection in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on the dates of January 16, March 28, and April 18, 2008. The charges were made by Miss Judy who is the DHS counselor assigned to the Learning Connection. I have proof that these charges are false and unjustified. We are the only minority-owned daycare in Rutherford County.”

I have carefully reviewed the letter and the proof. These allegations seem to imply racial discrimination.

Racial discrimination is a high-profile issue in the business world and is a very real problem that still exists—and in some cases is getting worse.

The Racial Discrimination Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of race in many areas of public life. The Act also prohibits offensive behavior based on racial hatred (racial vilification).

Title VII and the other antidiscrimination laws prohibit discrimination against individuals employed in the United States,

EEOC enforces the federal prohibition against national origin discrimination in employment under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
National origin discrimination means treating someone less favorably because he or she comes from a particular place, because of his or her ethnicity or accent, or because it is believed that he or she has a particular ethnic background.employees.

Today there is a drumbeat of anger across this nation aimed at immigrant workers and their families, with little regard for the truths about the lives and livelihoods of millions of people living and working here among us. Equality for immigrant’s can only be attained when immigrant can live free from discrimination, oppression and violence in all their forms. It is imperative that policies promoting comprehensive immigration reform also support fair and just policies that protect the rights of immigrant people.

To that end, we at CPEA calls upon the State of Tennessee to review and revise, where necessary, their immigration laws, policies and practices so that they are free of racial discrimination and compatible with States' obligations under international human rights instruments;

Will Memphis ever get other theme park?

Summers season coming again and like alway's I am thinking summer fun and theme park- we no longer have liberty land, and am wondering if Memphis or Mississpi is considing putting a theme park in the surounding area. I believe a theme park would really be good for the cities, Memphis and Mississpi citizen, plus save our citizen a lot of money, gas prices are high and a lot of Memphians probably would love a area theme park and it would be good for the tourist who come to Memphis every year to visit the Elvis Mansion and other attraction in the Memphis area. I would like to know how other members in the midsouth feel about not having a theme park in the city and how it's affecting them to go elsewhere for there vacation.

Local Kappa in movie 'How She Move'

OK, Ok,....

I know this is not a feature that folks will be standing in line to see, but if you can, please go see this one. My son, pictured on my blog with his wife and daughter has about 10 seconds of fame in this one. The film is low budget, but has an inspiring story line(see below).

My son is a Kappa and they are stepping for about 15 seconds in this movie. If you look at his picture on my blog profile and then see the movie, you can tell which one he is. I am proud of him for his 10 seconds of fame, but I am more proud of his accomplishments. Before you think this is all he has done, let me share something with you. He was selected during Memphis in May in 1997, as one of the exchange students to travel to Morroco; He graduated valedictorian of his high school; He graduated from Howard University; He is a teacher in Fairfax, Va. public schools and is currently working on his PHD....and he is from Orange Mound! So when you use Orange Mound as a reference to relate to the negative, remember....something good can come from the Mound. Just wait....you ain't seen nothing yet.(I know..bad english but its good communication)

The movie 'How She Move' is about Raya Green a seventeen-year-old, incredibly bright and full of promise. She attends a prestigious private school outside her tough, crime-ridden neighborhood. When a family tragedy leaves her family unable to pay her tuition, Raya is forced to return to the old community she so desperately wants to escape. She soon finds herself drawn into the world of underground dance competitions and smells an opportunity to win some money, get out of the neighborhood, help her family and return to her old school. But as the dance tournament unfolds, Raya realizes that real success only comes to those brave enough to tackle it on their own terms.
