    dog killings

Recently we were hiking over the old landfill in Shelby farms on the right as you are traveling east on Walnut Grove.  towards the forest we discovered the remains of several dogs, all in different stages of decay.   One dog still had a licensed collar around it's neck.  We called the number to find out that the dog was a missing family pet. After talking to the Sheriff of Collierville and learning that this matter was a city matter, we first notified Shelby Farm park rangers, who informed us that they were familiar with animal dumpings and believed that they were coming from a dog fighting ring... We were told to contact the city which we did and to this day we have heard from no one.  We returned to the scene a couple weeks later to see that none of the animals had been removed.  In the same location there were also several deer remains with antlers sawed off and removed.

Are criminals out there stalking our pets only to throw them to viciously trained animals to torture and kill. and what is being done about this?

    Re: dog killings

The city does not care so you're wasting your time calling anyone. It is a known fact, dog fighters will steal small family pets and use them for 'bait dogs'. They cage the small breeds as they force their fighting dogs onto a treadmill and dangle the 'bait dog'. When they've run the fighting dog to near death, the reward IS the 'bait dog'. Dogfighting in Memphis is not news. The most recent dog fighting ring was busted in 2007. Found in a residential neighbored 40 dogs were in horrible shape.Strange, none of the neighbors heard 40 dogs tied to barrels in filth on a one acre lot!  After the dogs were taken to MAS, they mysteriously disappeared (stolen) within a month. That news story died quickly! Any family pet, cat or dog, can be a target........but we're talking about another Memphis problem that will go ignored.

    Re: dog killings

The City of Memphis continues to allow dog fighting.  the poor animals are tortured and trained to kill.  It seems Memphis will not get involved in stopping this horrible act.  if they would go into a dog fighting ring, they would find money and drugs being exchanged.  I have seen dogs that have been tortured and left to die.  It has got to stop and the public needs to get involved.

    Re: dog killings

I share your outrage, but realistically, if the city government can't/won't stop the human killings, carjackings and robberies, how can they stop the dog fighting?

You have to remember that this is the same city that re-elected king Willie. The people her just act like the crime here is "normal". I find the whls city bizzare at best, unliveble at times. Sad.

    Re: dog killings

You are right Solo1. Dog fighting, drugs, guns, money are all linked. There is big money to be made in the sadistic world of dog fighting and people should be outraged.  'The law' over looks dog fighters and if caught they get a slap on the wrist. The only time anyone gets upset is when a dog attacks and then, rather than blame the scum that forces the dogs to be mean, they blame the dog. Too many are getting a percent of  the dollars made from tormenting animals, but again, the law looks the other way.

Note: no one came forward with information about the little pup used as dog bait 4-08 !!!! Dog fighting remains alive and thrieving in Memphis, but if people don't care about another human, they would not care about an little pup!
